Hawke's Bay Claims Top Red Status

Sommnet.com ~ Monday 16 January 2006

Promotion planned for London targets red wine.

Hawke’s Bay Winemakers will be staking their claim as New Zealand’s Red Wine Capital at the London Annual Trade Tasting on 17th and 18th January. For the first time the region will present the New Zealand red wine story as the oldest wine growing region in the country.

Wines ranging from the 1998 vintage to 2005 will be presented to invited wine buyers, media and consumers. Further Hawke’s Bay wines will be featured in a seminar focusing on New Zealand Syrah; this variety reputed to be the future shining star for Hawke’s Bay.

Visitors to the Hawke’s Bay Winemakers stand will learn that the region’s 39.4° South latitude, equivalent to Madrid in the Northern Hemisphere, an annual average of 2200 sunshine hours and over 25 different soil types, Hawke’s Bay is already producing the lion’s share of stand-out world class New Zealand red wines.
